News: Airport RADAR May Soon Be History?
Posted by Matthew Justice on Aug 31, 2007USAToday.com featured an article about Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B). This is big news for a non-aviation focused company to be covering this technology.
One interesting aspect of ADS-B that I have not thought about is that “The result will be a 10%-15% increase in landings an hour, fuel savings of 1 million gallons a year, a 30% reduction in noise and 34% lower nitrous oxide emissions,” says Capt. Karen Lee, UPS chief pilot. This is all due to the steady, fuel-saving descent plan that ADS-B will offer to airlines.
